Key Personnel

Over the years the academy has had the privilege to have the association of some of the best minds in the Indian Aviation industry
Beginning with Wg. Cdr B.K. Dhiman, Former Chief Test Pilot, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, IAF Fighter Pilot, Qualified Flight Instructor and ATPL holder who was the academy’s first Chief Ground Instructor.
Similar is the case with the engineering department of the academy which has always remained in the hands of some of the best Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AME) in the country:
Shri B.P. Singh, holder of AME licence in category A, B, C, D and X, former Chief Engineer of Hind Provincial Flying Club, UP state government Civil Aviation Department, IIT- Kanpur-Aerospace Department and other such organisations.
Shri M. C. De Sarkar, holder of AME licence in category A, B, C and X who was the first AME licensed to certify the Beechcraft Turbine engine aircraft in India and he was also the former Chief Engineer of the Ford Foundation- India, U.P. State government, Hind Provincial Flying Club and other such organisations of high repute.

The present team also consists of some of the best in the Aviation industry. The profiles of key personnel of the academy are as below:

1. Capt. Vijay Kumar Garg, Accountable Manager:

Mr. Garg is the Accountable Manager of the academy and looks over the entire functioning and day to day working of the academy. Mr. Garg has a Masters in Commerce and a Bachelor of Law. He is also holder of a Private Pilot License as also Airframe and Powerplant License issued by the Federal Aviation Administration, USA. Mr. Garg has more than 38 years of experience in the aviation sector and more than 25 years of experience in aircraft maintenance. Mr. Garg also has the distinction of being the only person in the country to have received comprehensive and specialized manufacturer training from both Teledyne Continental Motors as well as Textron Lycoming, two of the world’s most renowned manufacturers of Aircraft engines.

2. Gp. Capt. Rajeev Bhalla, Director Student Affairs:

Group Captain Rajeev Bhalla started his aviation career as a Fighter Pilot in the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 1977. During his tenure with the IAF, he flew a total of 4000 hours of accident-free flying. During his active flying duty of over 31 years with the IAF, he flew various aircrafts included Hunter, Mig-21, Jaguar (Multi Engine), Kiran (Jet Trainer), HT-2 (Piston Trainer), etc. He is a qualified Flying Instructor from the IAF and has commanded a Jaguar Fighter Squadron. He had also served as the Chief Flying Instructor at Air Force Academy, Hyderabad. He has been a member of the Thunderbolt Aerobatic Team of the IAF which has performed aerobatic shows all over India and abroad. He has had the privilege of flying along with British and French Air Force Pilots at various aerobatic shows. After taking premature retirement in 2008 from the IAF, he took over the task of establishing/ reviving three flying schools and ensured that they turned into successful ventures. From 2008 to 2021, he flew accident-free flying as the Chief Flying Instructor (CFI) holding all the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) examinership and has flown approximately 6000 hours, thereby totalling to 10000 hours of accident-free flying in his entire career. As of 2022, he has been engaged with Garg Aviations as our Director Students Affairs to impart aviation knowledge, guidance and mentorship to the students, who are interested in joining the field of Civil Aviation

3. Capt. V.S. Chauhan, Director Drone Training:

Capt V.S. Chauhan holds an ATPL and is an experienced combat pilot, experimental test pilot and a commercial pilot, with over 7500 hours of flying on 18 types of aircraft. He also has an open rating for all fixed wing aero planes below 5700 kg AUW. He also is an experienced UAV (Drone) Operations specialist with more than 15 years of experience in military and civil UAV operations. He looks after the day-to-day operations of Drone training at the Academy.

4. Capt. Mayank Garg, Chief Flying Instructor/Examiner:

Capt. Mayank has more than 6500 hrs of flying experience including more than 6000 hours as instructor. Capt. Mayank did his initial flying training at GAL. He has also received specialized multi engine, complex aircraft and instrument flying training in USA and is also the holder of FAA, USA Airline Transport Pilot license with multi engine and instrument ratings. He has also cleared FAA, USA examinations on fundamentals of Flying Instructions, Certified Flight Instructor, Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument. Capt. Mayank has also attended training in USA on Beechcraft Bonanza A36, Piper Saratoga PA32R-301, Piper Seneca PA-34, Diamond DA-42 and Beech Duchess aircraft which makes him qualified to fly on ten different types of aircraft including five different multi engine aircraft. He also has Open rating to fly all single engine aircraft with maximum weight up to 1500 kgs.

5. Capt. Rishabh Garg, Chief Flying Instructor/Examiner:

Capt. Rishabh Garg is a holder of Commercial Pilot License as well as Flight Instructor Rating. He has more than 4500 hours of flying experience in nine different types of aircraft including four different multi engine aircraft. Capt. Rishabh is also a DGCA approved examiner/instructor and is also pursuing Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License course. He is looking after the day to day working and ensures smooth operation of flying training. He also has Open rating to fly all single engine aircraft with maximum weight up to 1500 kgs. and has a passion of getting more and more aircrafts endorsed on his license.
